1. Summary
This
product bulletin announces the availability of the CIFS Migration Bundle. The
bundle allows sales reps to easily order the VFM® Migration Edition (ME)
software while they are ordering the CIFS protocol. Including VFM Migration Edition with the
Windows® File Services solution can simplify the experience for customers
adopting NetApp storage systems through an automated and policy-driven
migration solution. Sales also has an opportunity to introduce the broader
VFM solution (VFM Enterprise Edition) into the customer environment through
VFM-ME to VFM-EE upgrade options. VFM-ME is
the ideal solution for customers to use for nondisruptive consolidation or
migration of their data to NetApp storage or between NetApp storage
appliances. By purchasing the bundle,
customers receive a price reduction compared to purchasing the solution parts
separately. 2.
What’s New? When adding
protocols to a newly purchased NetApp storage system, there is now a new
option for ordering the CIFS protocol license. This option is labeled “CIFS
Migration.” When selected, a
standard CIFS part number and a special VFM-ME part number will be ordered.
This VFM-ME part number represents the appropriate storage system tier and is
offered at a 50% discount compared to the standard VFM-ME list price. When
purchasing the bundle customers must purchase an SSP for the VFM-ME software.
There is no discount given for the CIFS license or the VFM-ME SSP or CIFS
SSP. Prior to the
bundle’s availability, quoting would involve using the protocol’s page to
order the CIFS protocol and then going to the “Add new software” page to
order the VFM-ME license. 3.

server (NetApp storage appliance) that is to be managed as a destination for
the migration must be licensed. If the migration involves non-NetApp storage,
a Node/Server license must be purchased for these devices as well. A VFM-Migration Edition license is not
required for an existing server acting as the source of the data being migrated
as long as the customer is performing a one-time migration and completes the
migration within 6 months. The Node/Server license is not included as part of
this bundle. The
VFM-ME server is included in the cost of the individual system licenses. No
additional license is required for the management server. When
ordering the CIFS Migration Bundle the customer will be quoted a CIFS license
price as usual; however, the following part numbers will be used for the
VFM-ME license.
Software Subscription Plans An
SSP is required for all software sold with this bundle and the subscription
lengths for the CIFS and VFM-ME license must be sold at the same time. The
existing VFM-ME SSP part numbers will be used with the new VFM-ME parts above. Quoting For
